A-State Piano Studio, Fall 2021
Featured Student
Al Clevenger
Major: Bachelor Music Education (Instrumental)
Year (22-23): Senior
Hometown: Jonesboro, AR
Favorite Composer(s): Sergei Rachmaninoff, Nikolai Kapustin, Bill Evans
What I’m practicing now: Prelude No. 23, Op. 53: Moderato - Nikolai Kapustin and Allegro Barbaro (Sz.49) - Béla Bartók
Honors: I am extremely grateful to have been awarded the A-State Excellence, Arkansas Challenge, and the Janna Lambert Memorial Keyboard Scholarship. In 2019, I was awarded Outstanding Soloist at the University of Northern Colorado - Greeley Jazz Festival and was selected to perform at the A-State Honors Recital in 2020. In the Spring of 2022 I performed my own Junior Recital.
Career Goals: I plan on graduating with my Bachelors of Music Education in the Spring of 2023. After this I would like to go right into teaching as a band director, assistant band director or a general music teacher at a public school. After gaining a few years of teaching experience, I would like to return to school and pursue a Master's in either Instrumental Conducting or Jazz Studies.
Best thing about Music at A-State: For me, the welcoming nature of everyone and the wonderful facilities are the best things in music at A-State. I am very grateful that everyone is so nice and that I have so many opportunities as a performer and a learner at A-State.
