A-State Piano Studio, Fall 2021
Featured Student

Madison Betz
Major: Piano Performance
Year (21–22): Junior
Hometown: Bryant, AR
Favorite Composer: Frederic Chopin & Richard Wagner
What I'm practicing now: Sonata No. 9 in E Major, Op. 14, No. 1 - Beethoven; Violin Sonata No. 1 in G Major, Op. 78 - Brahms; Hawig-hawig - Francisco Buencamino
Honors: I feel honored and grateful to be able to receive the A-State Excellence, Silver Choral Scholarship, Lily Peter Keyboard Scholarship, Dan Ross Memorial Scholarship, Arkansas Academic Challenge, and the V.C. & Bertie H. Kays Educational Scholarship for Academic Excellence for the 2021-22 school year. In the past two years, I have performed a Sophomore Recital, served as the Secretary/Treasurer for our ACDA chapter, and participated in Opera Production. This coming year, I am looking forward to continuing to serve as a Student Collaborative Pianist, be a member of Chamber Singers and Concert Choir, serve as an Honors Ambassador, and be a part of Sigma Alpha Iota, where I will be Epsilon Gamma's Recording Secretary and Co-Program Chair for 2021-22.
Career Goals: I plan on at least getting my Master's in Collaborative Piano, and from there, I plan on either getting an Artistic Diploma in Vocal Coaching or a Doctorate in Piano Performance and Pedagogy, depending on which route is decided later on.
Best thing about Music at A-State: I'm very thankful for the Music Department at A-State in the sense that it feels like a tight-knit community that has provided its students with support and opportunities, and I've been very happy to study and make music in this environment!
